100th Project


Detailed installations and finishing stages begin


The pace of progress continues at Rigby & Rigby’s stunning 100th project, which we are showcasing through this journal across the 18 months of the build.

The project, which includes the creation of a large basement extension and the complete refurbishment of an original Grade II listed house in west London, is now watertight allowing the team to move into spring with the detailed installations and finishing stages.

Rigby & Rigby prides itself on the attention to detail given to every project, through a collaborative approach by a diverse and fully integrated in-house team, who work on every Rigby & Rigby project.

Over twelve months, Rigby & Rigby’s architectural practice and interior architects have worked in partnership with construction engineers, planning consultants and heritage consultants, to develop a striking, high quality design inside and outside the property, which is appropriate to the building’s listed status, yet also meets the contemporary feel sought by the client.

Rigby & Rigby’s signature attention to detail doesn’t only apply to areas visible to the client. We pay equal attention to service and back-of-house areas and carefully plan, install, label and test services using cutting edge technology and construction techniques throughout the property.

For example, Mechanical and Electrical installations are now well underway on the project and these have been planned weeks in advance of work commencing on site to ensure service routes, carrying a multitude of pipes, data and power cables, are invisible to the client, but fully accessible should the need arise. They have also been carefully planned in respect of the existing listed building, allowing existing floorboards and cornice work to be retained and restored.

Recently, the project also received the welcome news that Rigby & Rigby’s Architectural team had secured first-time planning approval for an innovative stacking car lift at the property, which takes a client’s vehicle from pavement to lower ground level; one of only a handful of occasions when such a permission has been granted within the setting of a listed building and Conservation Area.

Throughout the Spring works will continue with high-end stone and joinery packages being fully designed, detailed, and samples signed off by the client, with regular inspection of the works maintaining the highest levels of quality.

Detailed design meetings continue in respect of the project to ensure every stage of the build is executed impeccably. Premium materials, chosen for both the interior and exterior, will be inspected by the team with visits to quarries, carpentry workshops and other manufacturers to specify and inspect stone, timber flooring, high quality glazing and bespoke joinery. This gives the client the peace of mind that the materials chosen from sample are matched and will provide the beautiful home that they have envisaged.

This seamless collaboration between different disciplines and ability to successfully balance the restoration of the property’s historic qualities with a modern and distinctive basement redevelopment, achieving a high-quality result which realises the vision that our client has for the property, is what Rigby & Rigby has built its reputation upon since its launch in 2006.
