Rigby & Rigby Supports Summit to City

Rigby & Rigby is proud to be supporting Studio Juice’s challenging trek from Mont Blanc back to the City of London, having sponsored the event. Ross Stirling and David O’Dwyer are currently around 40K into their 850K cycle ride.

The journey began in the south of France and will last just under a week. The challenge at hand is climbing, cycling, rowing and running from the summit of Mont Blanc to London. The event will be raising money in equal amounts for War Child UK and Duchenne UK. Both charities help children who are not fortunate to have a safe or stable future.

Ross Stirling and David O’Dwyer will be aiming to summit Mont Blanc and then travel back to London under their own steam in less than a week. The 4 stage challenge covers:

  • Climbing Mont Blanc (4,810 metres) from the Chamonix valley and back
  • Cycling 850 km across France and Switzerland
  • Kayaking 18.5 nautical miles across the Channel
  • Running 120 km from the South coast to London

Ross Stirling commented, “we are extremely grateful for the sponsorship from Rigby & Rigby, we have donated all funds directly to the charities involved,” he continues, “the successful summit of Mont Blanc yesterday witnessed the both of us experience some of the toughest terrains and weather conditions known to the French mountain, due to this some of the summit routes have been potentially closed.”

David O’Dwyer commented, “the event is unique – most competitors would chose to do one aspect – or a part of one aspect – certainly not all four. A self-supported crampons and ropes climb, 850K is a huge challenge for non-cyclists.  A row across one of the busiest straights of water and then an ultra-marathon… it’s a long way to go! Worth it for these incredibly important charities.”

Duchenne UK’s vision is to find and accelerate treatments and a cure for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD). DMD is a devastating muscle wasting disease and Duchenne UK aim to eradicate it in 10 years – www.duchenneuk.org. The money raised will be supporting their ongoing and much needed research.

War Child’s mission is to protect, educate and stand up for the rights of children caught up in war. Their aim is to reach children as early as possible when conflict breaks out and stay on to support them, long after the TV cameras have gone home – www.warchild.org.uk. The money raised will be supporting the interception of child trafficking.
